Chernobyl-virus strikes companies for the third time

Surprisingly enough Ibas still receives requests for data recoveries from companies hit by the so-called CIH-virus - also known as the Chernobyl-virus. The virus first struck on the 26th of April 1999 and paralysed between 6 000 and 10 000 computers in Norway. Ibas offers data recovery from NOK 8.000,- depending on the magnitude of the damage.

- Ibas is present in 12 international markets and our subsidiaries and agents have received several requests from companies struck today. So far it's not a question of a massive viral epidemic, which would have been sensational. The massive demand the last two years has prepared us for a certain amount of requests this year as well. Ibas has recovered hundreds of infected computer. This is the reason why we can offer recovery of data for NOK 8.000,- depending on the type of damage, says Tormod Nymoen, head of marketing at Ibas.

There are still companies that have not secured themselves, in spite of the damages caused the last two years. Many people and companies suffering from black screens on their PC's in 1999 and 2000 contacted Ibas. Last year we recovered a total of 50 computers due to CIH.

Destructive virus
CIH is a destructive virus overwriting parts of the hard disk. In addition, the virus destroys the Flash BIOS, an important part of the computer. The Virus was activated today, 15 years after the Chernobyl disaster. The damaged seems total since you no longer have access to your computer. On many occasions all the workstations in a network are hit simultaneously. No files are accessible and it is impossible to restart, even from a diskette.

Ibas have open lines at +47 62 81 01 00, where experienced engineers work 24 hours a day to help customers retrieve their data.
