Ibas recovers 17.000 data files for Cell Network

Cell Network AS in Norway was badly hit by the Love-letter virus on the 4th of May, just like a number of other large Norwegian companies within Internet, media and the graphical industry. The company lost access to about 3 Gb of vital customer data. The task of recovering the data was immediately given to Ibas AS in Kongsvinger Norway, which after 24 hours delivered back the 17.000 data files, fully recovered.

The data files belonged to a 40 Gb advanced storage system, called RAID, which broke down because of the Love-letter virus. Vital customer jobs were in immediate danger.

- Such a virus attack is the worst thing that can happen. Our main task is to deliver first class results to our customers and a virus that destroys graphical files can be very serious for us. Therefore Cell Network has established data security routines designed to avert such attacks. Nobody could stop this virus and we know for sure that Cell is not the only company in the Internet business that was hit. When we didn't have access to our RAID system, we immediately called Ibas in Kongsvinger. We were one of the first to engage Ibas and during Saturday morning we received all our data fully recovered, so that we had all our customer data 100% intact. Therefore the virus attack will not have any negative effects on our customers, says Knut Gaaserud, vice president of Cell Network.

Busy days for Ibas
- Ibas has received several hundred inquiries through their subsidiaries and agents in Europe, from companies in the Internet, media and graphical industry. The amount of damage and their consequences are serious for many of them. Cell Network did not panic, but acted professionally, according to internal routines. Cell did experience not having access to their data, but no damage was done to their data files. This is usually the case with our work. Ibas is able to recover data with a lot of success, Tormod Nymoen, marketing manager for Ibas, remarks.
