Tax authorities in the Netherlands are using Norwegian technology

In the course of a three-year period, the Dutch tax authorities will be replacing 40,000 computers and it is of the utmost importance that 100% of the information contained on these machines is erased reliably and effectively before the machines are released for use by others. The supplier that the tax authorities have chosen to solve this important task is Ibas..

Ibas offers its unique erasure technology, ISEC, through a subsidiary company as well as through its sales offices located throughout Europe. The Dutch tax authorities have awarded the company Reletronic-Remech [a subsidiary of Siemens] the contract to erase all the of the data on 40,000 PCs over a three-year period. Reletronic-Remech will purchase the erasing services from Norman, which represents Ibas in the Netherlands. After being upgraded and tested, the cleaned PCs will be sold or distributed to the Dutch education authorities.
With the help of erasure technology from Ibas, the Dutch tax authorities are erasing all sensitive data on hard disks on a daily basis so that the computers may be later sold or donated to public schools.

The tax authorities' computers contain a tremendous amount of sensitive personal information to which no unauthorised persons must have access. This is one of the reasons the tax authorities needed to find a reliable partner that could guarantee the removal of all sensitive data. In addition to ensuring the proper removal of all data, there are also strict requirements as to security and discretion; Ibas satisfies all such requirements.

The sales manager at Norman BV, Frank Schootemeijer, expects to land several large contracts in the months ahead. "Based on our reputation and experience, it's actually no surprise that we were awarded this contract for reliable data erasure and this is just the first in a series of projects that we will be undertaking in the finance and insurance fields. Many larger organisations are in the process of replacing their computer equipment on a large scale and they need to be absolutely 100% sure that sensitive information no longer exists on their computers when the machines leave their offices.

The staff at Relectronic-Remech have already been trained in reliable data erasure procedures by Ibas and are performing this service daily on computers belonging to the Dutch tax authorities."
